Porsche 917k 1970 Le Mans Gulf n20
The 1970 Porsche 917, particularly in the iconic Gulf livery, is one of the most celebrated cars in the history of Le Mans. Painted in the striking powder blue and orange colors of Gulf Oil, the 917 featured a flat-12 engine that produced an astounding 600 horsepower, allowing it to reach speeds over 220 mph on the Mulsanne Straight. Porsche engineered the 917 to be lightweight and aerodynamically advanced, creating a car that was as powerful as it was agile.
The 917 dominated the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans in wet and treacherous conditions, leading Porsche to its first overall victory in the prestigious race. This win cemented the 917's place in racing lore and established Porsche as a powerhouse in endurance racing. The Gulf-liveried 917 has since become an icon, embodying the golden era of motorsport with its unique design, blistering speed, and legendary racing achievements.
