Jaguar D-type Le Mans Winner 1955
The Jaguar D-Type, a masterpiece of engineering and design, triumphed at the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans, securing Jaguar's place in motorsport history. Piloted by Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb, the car capitalized on its cutting-edge innovations, including a lightweight monocoque chassis and an aerodynamically advanced body designed by Malcolm Sayer. Its finned rear stabilizer and streamlined shape maximized high-speed stability on Le Mans’ long straights.
Powered by a robust 3.4L inline-six engine, the D-Type delivered both power and reliability—key attributes in the grueling endurance race. Despite fierce competition and the tragic accident that overshadowed the 1955 race, the Jaguar D-Type's performance was unmatched, outlasting rivals to claim victory.
